Heating It Up, Elizabeth Harmon

I had the chance to meet this author at a recent event hosted by Barnes & Noble. She specializes in the world of figure skating and dreamy Russian men. What intrigued me in particular about this shorter novella, Heating It Up, was the setting: it's a play on the typical 'small town romance,' but set in Antarctica, which has to be the most awesomely creative twist ever, a bit like the Kate Beckinsale "Whiteout" (2009) murder mystery.

I'm a bit of a curmudgeon (with a soft, squashy interior), and my taste leans toward protagonists who are less good-looking and whose relationships are more prickly, but I definitely got sucked into the book because I found the world here just utterly fascinating.
